Relationship & Communication Concerns
Many of our clients come in with challenges in their relationships, and often one person may feel more ready to look at these concerns than another. That’s normal. Communication can be very tricky and you find yourself misunderstanding each other.
We see all kinds of couples. Monogamous couples, monogamish couples, couples who have had infidelity, couples who have been together for a few months, couples who have been together for decades. We see straight couples and LGBTQ+ couples. We see mixed race and interfaith couples. We see religiously observant couples. We look at each person as an individual with their own struggles and histories. We don’t take sides. We don’t judge you and we don’t shame you. We don’t have a moral agenda of what a couple should be. We work with each person in the couple to identify what their ideal relationship would look like, and then we try to build a collective vision together. Part of the therapy may also include healing from past hurts. While most of the sessions will take place with the couple together with the therapist, there may be times that it would be more beneficial to meet in individual sessions.
The modalities that inform our work are Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), psychodynamic couple therapy, psychoanalytic couple therapy, and internal family systems therapy. We try to get at the core of what is interfering with each person in the couple feeling unfulfilled in the relationship. We approach each couple with optimism and hold the hope even when you feel that you cannot.
